All passenger car exhausts must receive European approval before they can be fitted to vehicles circulating on the public highway. This approval takes the form of a European E approval number which is either engraved straight onto the exhaust or marked on a plate welded to the exhaust body, positioned so that it is clearly visible without dismantling.
